We want to capture all the financial updates for this year. It has been a difficult year for everyone. We are in the 2nd year of the pandemic. Things are moving back towards the norm. It is a different world now compared to 2019. In addition, the stock market is very volatile.
Investment Lessons I learnt
This is a year of FOMO. All assets are flying. I have seen people making tons of money from NFT, cryptocurrencies, and stocks. I was fighting hard not to jump in. Sometimes it will be good to just nimble a bit. Then you will be interested to learn more about alternative investment.
P2P lending – Funding Societies
Let’s look at Funding Societies Malaysia which we update earlier on 12th December 2021. The Annualized Portfolio Performance is 10.28% p.a. Total invested is getting close to twice the Total Deposits. It will mean 2x circulation with the loan platform.

We have invested in 304 loans and there’s 0 default for now. Hopefully, it stays this way.

In Funding Societies Singapore, we have invested S$900 and it is in circulation for a while, achieving a Total Invested amount of S$2,650 with an Annualized Portfolio Performance of 6.12% p.a. This is close to 3x circulation of funds with the loan platform.

We have invested in 57 loans in Funding Societies Singapore. The number of deals in Singapore seems to be lesser than in Malaysia.

P2P Lending – Others/possible money schemes
On another P2P lending, we have collected S$24k of interest. This is guaranteed by a friend.
Recently, I went for a high school dinner, my friend explained to me a forex copying trade scheme. He put in S$10,000 as principal, it has an average 1% per day return. In a month, his average return is 20%. He does not care whether this is a scam. He does not want to be the last person to hold the unwanted child. He will take back the principal and let the profit roll on its own.
Dividends
The total dividend collected in FY2021 is S$ 58,005.28/= We do not have more to comment on this.
Property Management Income
The total property management income collected in FY2021 is S$2,600.
Options Premium
The total options premium written in FY2021 is US$27,058.7/=. As of the December FX rate, it is almost equivalent to S$36,899/=.
Side Hustles
I follow up on a deal and assist on the contract, which brought in S$1,000 and I started writing investment articles that brought in S$100.
Total Multiple Sources of Income (less work)
Funding Societies Malaysia Interest = approx S$320
Funding Societies Singapore Interest = approx S$54
Other Interest from P2P Lending = S$24,000
Dividends = S$58,005.28
Property Management Income = S$2,600
Options Premium = approx S$36,899
Side Hustles = S$1100
Total Multiple Sources of Income = S$122,978
Rate of Return

During November 2021 was the peak rate of return for all 3 stockbrokers accounts. We believe the main portfolio was 31.39% return, the hands’ itchy portfolio was around 25% return, the Singapore portfolio was still in deep red. Wahahaha.
The most recent update for the Rate of Return should be bad. The market is falling every day. It does not matter since we are not selling any of them.
Total Expenses
The total expenses for FY2021 should be in the range of S$91k – S$95k. If we less those one-off expenses, probably the expenses will be reduced to S$62k – S$66k. We spent mainly on the baby, there’s not much date night as Mrs needs to stay at home most of this year as she was not vaccinated then. Mrs was fully vaccinated in November. We can finally dine out.
If we are looking at different sources of income, it will exceed the Total Expenses. In a way, we are financially free based on Passive Income > Total Expense theory. If we look at the sustainability of these sources of income, it is still highly subjective.
Total Liability
We have this short-term fund transfer loan with SGD 45,000 outstanding from SCB. It is due on February 22. We secured another short-term fund transfer loan with SGD 45,000 from UOB to start to pay down the SCB. This is a free-float at the cost of 1%, EIR around 2.5%. We use this to fund a partial amount of the P2P lending to others.
Books I Read in 2021

I am spending more time at work and helping out with family chores. I have lesser time to read. I will love to have more time to read my books. I realized this year I am reading more books on personal finance and properties investment. You are what you read.
